Ok, so I have to admit I pin a lot on Pinterest, but I don't always do the things that are in my DIY folder...or any folder for that matter. But, as I am slowly redoing the office/playroom, I decided that I'd do some Mallory friendly art. As I've been storing kid ideas for months now, I decided to give one a try...it's from this blog: http://artfulexpression.blogspot.com/2011/12/crayon-art.html. So here was my attempt at crayon art:
First I made sure I had all of my supplies. One canvas (40% off at Michael's), 2 tubes of Locktite because it can be heated, green and yellow crayons (from my stash Karen bought me for school, and a box of 64 crayons I picked up for Mallory), some artifical flowers (also from Michael's and 50% off), and my embossing gun. Seems pretty easy...AND IT IS!
I layed the crayons out on the canvas to make sure that I had enough, and I started gluing them on. I didn't want it to be perfect, as I like looking at crayon names just as much as I do the crayon label. I am kind of fond of my asparagus crayon, as Mal and I both love it!
Then, I turned on my embossing gun and let it do it's thing. It's really kind of amazing to see how fast the crayons melt and the cool things that happen. I held the canvas at an angle and made sure that I had wax in different colors and sizes.
Then, I glued on some pink flowers and tada:
I think it will look pretty awesome hanging in our office/playroom. Mallory gave me an oooh and kicked her feet when she saw it, so I take that as approval. I'm kind of impressed with my work, and I'm looking forward to tackling my next Pinterest DIY project! (because there are 3 in the works not including Mallory's birthday party!)
